Opening Attachments to Quality Center Tests
NOTE: This article assumes you have a basic understanding of working with Quality Center files and does not provide all the steps.

Quality Center allows you to attach files to a test that is stored in the Test Plan module.  Test Design Studio has full support for opening and editing these attachments.  The 'Folders' list in the Test Design Studio file dialogs will include a special virtual folder for the attachments to any tests.  First navigate to the Test Plan folder that contains the test.  Expand that folder and you will see a virtual folder for the attachments to any tests.

In the screen shot above, you can see Quality Center v9.2 in the background and a Test Design Studio file dialog in the foreground.  You can see that both windows shows the same 'Subject\Testing' folder expanded to reveal a test called 'Test2_Locked'.  In Quality Center, you see the standard test entry in the tree.  In Test Design Studio, you see the virtual folder called 'Test2_Locked Attachments' (see blue arrows in screen shot).  The orange arrows illustrate that the same 'Library_Locked.qfl' file that is stored in Quality Center is also accessible in Test Design Studio through the special virtual folder.

Version Control Users

Prior to Quality Center v10.0, many users would use a mock test that could be used to version the associated attachments.  Test Design Studio planned for this scenario and allows you to interact with the attachments just as if they are version controlled tests.  When working with those attachments, Test Design Studio will provide the same version control operations that are available on the test to which they are attached.  Behind the scenes, the version control status of each of those attachments is actually just a reflection of the underlying test.  When you "check out" an attachment, you're really just checking out the test.  This feature is only available on those attachments that are attached to a test under version control.
